Terms of Service

These terms govern access to and use of the Orihon service and this website. By using either, you agree to them. If you're agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you're able to bind it.

1. The agreement

"Orihon" means Orihon K.K., a company incorporated in Japan with its office in Kuramae, Taitō-ku, Tokyo. "You" means the publisher or individual using the service. If we've signed a separate written agreement with you, that agreement controls where it conflicts with these terms.

2. Early access

Access is invite-only for now. While we're in early access we may change, limit, or pull functionality, and we can end access with reasonable notice. We'll avoid surprises where we can — but don't put anything on an early-access dependency that you couldn't back out of.

3. Your content

The volumes, pages, and other material you package stay yours. You give us only the licence we need to store it, deliver it to your readers, and keep backups — no more than that, and it lapses when you remove the content.

You are responsible for what you publish: that you have the rights to it, and that distributing it doesn't break the law or anyone else's rights.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use the service to:

• distribute malware, or content designed to damage or gain unauthorised access to a device;
• infringe intellectual property or privacy rights, including distributing a title you don't hold the rights to;
• strip or defeat the entitlement checks the service provides, or help a reader keep a title they aren't entitled to;
• probe, scan, or load-test our infrastructure without our written consent;
• resell the service, or share API keys outside your organisation.

If we reasonably think continued use threatens the service or another customer, we may suspend access without notice, and we'll explain why as soon as we practically can.

5. API keys

A key acts as you. Keep keys out of shipped binaries and out of version control, roll them when someone leaves, and email security@orihon.dev the moment one leaks. Until you tell us, activity under a key is your responsibility.

6. Availability

We aim to keep the service up and we publish region health at /status. We don't offer a contractual uptime commitment during early access, so design for the endpoint being briefly unreachable — the SDK holds volumes locally and keeps serving them with no connection, and you should lean on that.

7. Fees

Early-access participants are not charged unless we've agreed otherwise in writing. If we introduce fees, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice before they apply to you.

8. Confidentiality

Each of us may learn non-public information about the other. Neither of us will disclose it or use it for anything other than this relationship, for as long as it stays non-public.

9. Warranties

The service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages. Our total aggregate liability arising out of these terms will not exceed the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or JPY 10,000. Nothing here limits liability arising from wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Indemnity

You'll defend and indemnify us against third-party claims arising from content you package through the service or from your breach of section 4.

12. Termination

Either of us may end this agreement at any time. On termination your access stops and we'll delete your content within 30 days, other than backups that expire on their own schedule. Sections 3, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 survive.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance over any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the service, and both parties consent to that venue.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially reduces your rights we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email to your account administrators. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the change.
